I think we have taken a ride on all of them in the past few weeks! Here are some pictures we captured of Kay patiently waiting for the MTR.

Playing Tourist...The Bird and Flower Market

As we adjust to our new home we have decided to play tourist at every opportunity we get. It was a beautiful weekend so we spent the day Saturday at the bird and flower market. Kay loved seeing the birds and beautiful flowers. We walked in one store and I immediately told Craig "I smell Christmas!" Sure enough, they had real Christmas trees! I guess you can get just about anything here in Hong Kong. We probably will not be getting one this year. I cannot figure out how people get them home and then where they put them once they are there...

I have not figured out the bird market yet. It seems to be all men and I think they are just pet birds. The quantity of birds blew me away! Another one of those questions I have added to my ongoing list of questions...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving this year was a little different. It was pretty much any other day. Craig went to work and I took Kay to her school. The only difference was we had a nice dinner together afterwards! I kept telling Kay all day we were going to have a special dinner and she was going to need to dress up for daddy. I even convinced her to put in "Polly hair" as she calls it AND leave it in for the entire night. She was so proud to be dressed up for daddy. It was very sweet...

I searched high and low to find somewhere that would serve turkey to us and our two year old for Thanksgiving. I found a lot of places that would have turkey "to-go" or that were too fancy to allow a two year old. Our serviced apartment did not lend itself to having a Thanksgiving dinner at home so out to dinner we went! I must admit, it was kind of nice. We did not spend all day cooking and all night doing dishes! They did have stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans and fried turkey. They were all good, but not prepared how we would do it at home. We enjoyed every minute of our new Thanksgiving atmosphere together as a family. That being said, it was not the same and we did miss all of our family and friends back home!

New Things..

Kay has continued to be adventurous (sometimes more than her mom!) She really enjoyed her first taste of squid. She kept asking for more and more from Craig. Wish I could say the same!


Kay has been getting better at walking. We have found if we stop and take a break, she will eventually walk again and we can put off carrying her. This makes for a very slow going trip, but at least she is building up her endurance. Here is a picture of Kay and her daddy taking a break on the sidewalk...



Everywhere we go Kay finds something to inspect and look at. We found this great wall that was tiled in sparkles! We had to stop and check it out for about 10 minutes....

A Day with Baby...

Everyone wears their babies here because of the incredible number of stairs everywhere. Kay always points and says "baby in backpack". Conveniently, I packed my old baby backpack from the attic and Kay has LOVED wearing it. Last week, she carried it all day. She even wore it all the way to see Craig's office (about an hour commute). People loved to stop and watch her hug her doll and carry it very carefully. The doll even had to sit in a chair beside us for lunch!

Neat Discoveries...

We have discovered when they do something here they DO something! They have started decorating for Christmas. We found a mall that was decked out in Barbie Christmas decorations. I mean DECKED out. They had an outside display, interior display, and even on the escalators between the two. Kay loved it and could not stop pointing and showing Craig everything. We have found some cute Santa displays. We will have to take our camera and try to get some pictures of Kay.



Well, we are still exploring around our apartment. I wish I could experience this city through a child's eyes. I love watching Kay as she discovers something new. We spend a lot of time (and excitement) riding the tram, metro, escalators, and glass elevators. She asks a lot of "whats that mommy?" and I do my best to answer. She also likes to stop or sit and take a break and just watch. Here are some pictures of various things we had to stop and observe. We found a restaurant where they give you peanuts to shell and you throw the shells on the floor- very exciting to a two year old who usually gets in trouble for throwing food! We have found lines of hundreds of people in front of stores and we can't figure out why! We have found street fairs where we can't read the signs to figure out what it is! I am writing down my questions as I think of them during our walks in hopes someday I will be able to get some answers.




I am finding that we are always wishing we had our camera on us. I have been taking most pictures on my phone. I find it hard to manage one more thing while walking the street. Carrying Kay, my purse, and usually a food bag is enough! I promise as I get better at this (and Kay starts walking more) I will start carrying the good camera. There is so much stuff I want to capture!

So...many...stairs

I keep asking myself why I am so physically exhausted at the end of each day. Today I counted the number of steps between our flat and the playground. There are 319! Kay walked about 50 of them. We are slowly working up the distance she walks too. We will get there...in the meantime no gym needed for me!
